We are where we are because of actions we’ve taken—or sometimes actions we didn’t take. While this can be tough to hear, it’s essential for real growth. Many of us say, “I tried, but it didn’t work.” The challenge is often not that we didn’t try, but that we weren’t consistent enough to see it through.
If you’re not committed to doing the work, you can’t expect different results.
My Story of Learning to Commit to Change
For years, I tried to make lasting changes in my life. I tried to think differently, do better, and shift my habits. But no matter how hard I tried, I kept seeing the same results. I felt stuck. I would scroll through social media seeing other people doing great things and achieving their goals, envying those who seemed to be winning, and silently wishing their success would fade, so I could feel better about myself.
It wasn’t that I wasn’t putting in effort; I simply wasn’t consistent. I didn’t realize that true personal growth and lasting transformation require small, steady actions, repeated daily
I lacked the commitment to follow through. I hadn’t counted the cost of change, and I failed to address the mindset and habits that fueled my life. I’d start with a burst of momentum but then fall short, not realizing that my mindset and habits were misaligned with my goals.
Misguided Mindset
As well as consistent daily actions, I needed to address my mindset. Without changing the underlying thought patterns that held me back, my actions weren’t enough. My thoughts were filled with envy, negativity, and self-doubt. I expected immediate success, and when that didn’t happen, I gave up.
I wanted quick results but lacked the patience and commitment to the daily steps required for change.
My habits didn’t align with the results I wanted either. I wanted discipline, but I didn’t create a daily routine to support it. I hoped things would change on their own, without taking charge of my day, old habits like procrastination and making excuses would resurface, undermining my efforts.
Small Steps, Big Results
The breakthrough came when I recognized that lasting change requires consistent, small actions—not giant leaps. I had to start with my mindset. I began replacing self-doubt and envy with affirmations that empowered and healed me.
For example, to overcome envy and jealousy, I used affirmations like:
“I refuse to be jealous of others. I will celebrate their success and allow it to inspire and encourage me.”
Affirmations work when they focus on what you want to change and how you’re going to do it. This way, you’re not just thinking about change—you’re acting on it.
I started setting weekly and daily goals, such as waking up earlier and setting my intentions for the week ahead. These daily habits gave me structure and purpose. I also teamed up with an accountability partner who helped me stay on track, reminding me to focus on the process rather than the end result. Over time, these small steps added up to a big transformation.
The Cost of Change: Consistency and Commitment
Instead of obsessing over the end result, I shifted my attention to mastering the process, step by step. It is not always easy, but over time, those small daily actions led to big changes in your life. The key was realizing that change is a journey, and consistency is the vehicle that will get you there.
Change comes at a cost—whether it’s time, energy, or discipline. But the rewards are worth it. If you want long lasting change in your life, you have to invest in consistency and commitment to change. Instead of waiting for a breakthrough moments, you have to focus on showing up each day, even in small ways.

To ensure you stay on track, consider having an accountability partner or group. My accountability partner and I call each other every morning. We pray, say our affirmations aloud, and end the call. It takes only five minutes but keeps me focused and grounded.
Remember: change your narrative, change your thoughts, change your actions, change your life.
